JOHN COURSE
Having been part of the house music since its emergence in Australia, John first came to prominence by winning the Victorian leg of the DMC turntablist competition...A feat he repeated two years in a row!!! Moving from turntablist roots, he embraced house music from the start and was listed inDJ Mag’s first ever Top 100 Global DJ’s list, going on to start a successful music label, produce original music, have a nation-wide dance music radio show & hosting his own webcast for over sixtySaturday nights, during the Covid-19 isolation period...
John’s now legendary Good Friday 8 Hour Session, numerous MOS Classical and Testament Tours, support gigs with Glitterboxin Australia, plus the massive Reminisce event at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, all further enhance his DJ reputation. Add to that numerous corporate entities including the Victorian Racing Club’s spring racing carnival and The Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix regularly see him playing DJ sets at various stages or marquees. John holds monthly residencies at Melbourne club Electric, iconic club Poof Doof, and plays regular guest spots at clubs like 161, Sky Disco and various one off’s nation wide.
One of the founders of Vicious Recordings(Est. 1992), Johnis the GM of the label collective that first signed artists such as Madison Avenue, Rogue Traders, Peking Duk, Dirty South, Sgt Slick, a bunch of Avicii’s first ever recordings & many more tracks from DJ’s producers from all over the world. Vicious continues to release a stack of music & includes the labels Vicious, Vicious Black & EXCEED.
There are over one million compilations sold in Australia that include a John Course DJ mix, with releases from Ministry of Sound(where he mixed 7 editions of the iconic Annual), to One Love and through to his own Vicious releases! John co-hosted Nova-nation for over 7 years on the Nova Network every Saturday night across Australia and in March 2020 at the start of Covid impacting life in Australia John started his webcast, Club Classics and Future Anthems. The weekly broadcasts proved to be one of the most popular DJ shows during the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020 and continued through 2021’s multiple lockdown periods.60 shows, over half a million views and over a quarter of a million chat messages only reinforce the impact the broadcast had during lockdowns.
Between all of the above,John also produces music, having been half of Electro Funk Lovers & with solo productions under his alias J.A.C. or simply as John Course. He has remixed forlabels from Defected Records to Ministry of Sound, his most recent remix being St Croix’s 2025 release “My Life”. John’s recent productions include two singles with Sgt Slick “Love Is”and “Love Vision”, “You’re Makin Me High”,and “What Am I Gonna Do” a disco house cut featuring vocalist Emily Williams.

John’s technical skills as a DJ are only surpassed by his experience in programming the right music for the crowd in front of him and his deep knowledge of dance music’s back catalogue... From tech house to classic house, John’s love of the music not only helps keep Vicious on track, but ensures his productions are on point and that he is still in demand as a DJ several decades after those DMC titles.
